Don’t be concerned with the names “Hardwood or Softwood” we are looking at the characteristics of the wood itself.
Here is a list that was compiled from various sources.
When it comes to wood frames, never think of the “color” as the type of wood. In most cases, frame manufacturers describe the frame by words like cherry, walnut, teak or rosewood. However, this doesn’t mean that the frames are made from these types of wood. These terms are used to describe color because people relate to the wood colors using those traditional wood color tones. However, most frames these days are stained those colors and are rarely made out of solid woods like cherry, walnut, teak or rosewood.
Now, a lot of this information is just plain common sense. Even as I write this, I wonder who is going to believe that ANYONE will not be able to tell the lowest level differences between original and reproduction….. but really there are lots and lots of folk that cannot tell the difference even on the most simple sculptures. Add to that the fact that factories make it their business to make copies as accurately as possible, and you can see that it isn’t shameful to be fooled anymore!
Here are several nice woodcarving s on a variety of themes. A shelf full of them! Your eye dances over the line-up; there is an old man’s face; carved as a bust. Next to that is a small statue of a woman in a long robe. Then, there is carving of a Native American Indian. Finally, a very nice sculpture of a wolf and his prey. Each one of these wood carvings is painted in different ways, made of different woods, and even different sizes. Let’s begin with the first carving; the old mans face.
Also choose a product that has a repeat of at least 6 planks – that means 6 different grain photographs that repeat around the room – and in random lengths, to disguise repeats. Quality wood laminate flooring is generally guaranteed for 20 or 25 years. But unlike wood floors, they can’t be refinished. In the event of spot damage, the individual boards can sometimes be replaced.
Wood stoves are not part of the energy star program, so it’s not as easy to know which are the most efficient stoves (aside from the wood stove efficiency rating which is discussed below). However, as of this year, wood stoves that are 75% efficient or more will be designated (see sticker on back of stove) as such in order to show that they are eligible for the 30% Biomass Federal Tax Credit that is (up to $1,500 federal tax credit) available in 2009 and 2010.
When sanding is complete, wipe down wood with damp cloth. Making sure wood is free from any debris.
